In 2021, 764.061 passengers traveled to and from Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA), an increase of 54% compared to the first corona year 2020. Rotterdam The Hague Airport received more than a quarter of a million more passengers last year (almost 267.000 passengers). more) than a year earlier. This is apparent from the preliminary traffic and transport figures from RTHA.

Flights were flown to a total of 36 destinations, slightly less than in previous years. In the record year 2019 (a year before the coronavirus outbreak), this was still 2,1 million passengers. The number of air transport movements (large traffic > 6 tons) of, for example, commercial scheduled and holiday flights rose to 6355 flights, also more than in 2020 (+20 percent).

Small Aviation
The traffic of the police and trauma helicopter at RTHA increased by almost 12% compared to 2020 (19.247 number of movements in 2021). The share of small aviation increased by 15% in one year (36.185 flights in 2021). The noise space within which the airport operates has not changed during this period, according to Rotterdam The Hague Airport.

“2021 was our anniversary year. We were able to celebrate that on October 1, together with the official opening of our renovated departure hall. Corona remains dominant in the anniversary year of our airport. This has determined our behavior in the past year. The summer months were positive for us with higher occupancy rates than in our benchmark year 2019. Unfortunately, that does not make up for the whole year. We have also taken steps in the Airport Decree participation process. An important process for us to make good agreements with our environment about the operation of our airport in the coming years.”
