The four major cities want to reduce the speed limit everywhere within built-up areas from 50 to 30 kilometers per hour. This should significantly reduce the number of fatal road casualties. The fact that most accidents occur in urban areas corresponds to Flitsmeister's flash data for 2021.

Compared to 2020, the speed camera hotspots are increasingly shifting towards the city instead of the highway. From a road safety perspective, this can be a logical and good choice. In any case, the transition is remarkable.

In 2021 Abcoude was the most careful on the A2 Utrecht-Amsterdam. In second place is the A16 Dordrecht-Breda near Moerdijk. It is striking that the rest of the top ten are almost all urban roads, while in 2020 we saw the opposite picture.

The ten biggest speed camera hotspots of 2021:

  1. A2 Utrecht – Amsterdam at Abcoude
  2. A16 Dordrecht – Breda near Moerdijk
  3. Gooieweg – Diemen
  4. Backer and Ruebweg – Breda
  5. City course Leidsche Rijn – Utrecht
  6. Princess Beatrixlaan – Rijswijk
  7. Matlingeweg – Schiedam
  8. Prince Mautissingel – Lent
  9. N242 – Alkmaar
  10. John F. Kennedylaan – Eindhoven
