The 'destination Hunebed Highway' is becoming more than just an exciting name, an indication of a tourist area in the Netherlands. The brand awareness of this 'brand' has increased enormously within three years, but is far from complete. Recreation entrepreneurs are increasingly joining forces to make guests (especially from outside Drenthe) feel at home. From now on, sturdy 'Hunebed Highway e-bikes' are available for rent at 10 locations. Recognizable by the striking orange color and the logos of the 'Hunebed Highway'. Deputy Henk Brink (VVD) of Economic Affairs and Jacob Bruintjes (chairman Leader Committee Southeast Drenthe) are pleased with this initiative of the entrepreneurs.

“Entrepreneurs have to make it happen in the end. Governments, such as the province, Drenthe Recreation Board, municipalities but also Europe, can give a push in the right direction, as here with this project, says Henk Brink ”. The cooperation between the entrepreneurs was an important reason for the Leader Commission (Europe) to support this initiative ”, Jacob Bruintjes adds. “Thanks to cooperation in the tourism sector around the Hunebed Highway, the beautiful surroundings can be explored by e-bike,” he says.

One of the drivers of this project is director Ton Duivenvoorden of hotel 'Emmen' Van der Valk Emmen. “Cycling is 'hot', now and later also after Covid-19. People want to enjoy the outdoor atmosphere; walking and cycling. These e-bikes literally add a little color to the 'Dolmen Highway'with comfort for our guests. Duivenvoorden is pleased with the collaboration between colleagues. “Of course everyone has his or her own business interests, but through cooperation you get further” says entrepreneur / participant Klaas Jan Niezing of 'De Oringer Marke'. “There is more and more body of this brand”.
