Keukenhof may not open again after a year of working on the preparations due to the consequences of the corona crisis. Keukenhof is said to have opened to visitors on Saturday 20 March. Despite all the preparations they have made to open the world famous flower park, they have recently been informed that they will not be allowed to reopen their doors on March 20. The famous flower park, which normally attracts many tourists, has taken all kinds of measures and would open this year as a walking park, where, according to them, visitors could safely enjoy the flower park in the open air. Keukenhof is 50 football fields and has 15 kilometers of hiking trails, you would think plenty of space. During the weekends, people flock to the park or the woods for a lovely walk, but Keukenhof is not allowed to open.

Bart Siemerink, director: “The fact that we are not allowed to open again this year is a huge disappointment for everyone involved in Keukenhof. Within all corona rules, it is completely safe to take a walk in Keukenhof. Last year we were attacked by corona and the park could not open. This year we are fully prepared for corona and it is incomprehensible that you can walk in every park in the Netherlands, but not in Keukenhof. ”

The number of visitors that would be allowed in Keukenhof is limited, all buildings would be closed and tickets could only be ordered online in advance with a time slot. The park has also had mechanical entrance gates installed so that there would be no physical contact with other people. All this has not helped, the park is not allowed to reopen despite all the measures that have been taken. Not being allowed to open has enormous financial consequences. Yesterday, State Secretary Mona Keijzer visited Keukenhof to have a conversation and to view the park. Keukenhof has the plan with which Keukenhof could open safely as a hiking park, handed over to Mona Keijzer. The flower park says as soon as it is possible to open, they will.

“Keukenhof is unique and looks beautiful! I understand the disappointment that the park cannot open yet, but I am happy with the conversation I had today and what I saw. I take this into account in the conversations that we continuously have within the cabinet to see what can be done, if the epidemiological picture allows this again, ”says Keijzer.
