Volvo Cars is committed to becoming a leader in the fast-growing premium electric vehicle market. For that reason, the Swedish car manufacturer will only offer fully electric models from 2030. By then, Volvo's global portfolio will phase out all combustion engine vehicles, including models with hybrid technology. Volvo becomes fully electric. Volvo's transition to a fully electric car manufacturer is part of an ambitious strategy to consistently reduce the carbon footprint of the life cycle per car.

The decision is also based on the expectation that legislation, as well as a rapid expansion of an accessible high-quality charging infrastructure, will accelerate consumer acceptance of fully electric cars. Volvo's transition to full electrification is accompanied by a greater focus on online sales and a more complete, attractive and transparent service offering under the name Care by Volvo. All fully electric models are available online. The ambition for 2030 and an acceleration of Volvo's electrification strategy is driven by the strong demand for electrified Volvo models in recent years and the firm belief that the market for combustion engine cars is shrinking.

“To remain successful, we need profitable growth. So instead of investing in a shrinking company, we choose to invest in the future, electrically and online, says Håkan Samuelsson, CEO. We are fully focused on becoming a leader in the fast-growing, premium electric segment. ”

Volvo introduced its first fully electric vehicle, the XC2020 Recharge, to markets around the world at the end of 40. A second all-electric car, a new model in the 40 series, will be launched soon. In the coming years, Volvo will introduce more electric models. The brand aims to have as much as 2025 percent of worldwide sales from fully electric cars and the rest from hybrids by 50. By 2030, every new car that leaves the showroom must be fully electric. This reported Volvo Cars on their website.

“There is no long-term future for combustion engine cars,” said Henrik Green, Chief Technology Officer. We are committed to becoming an electric-only carmaker and the transition should be complete by 2030. In this way we can meet the expectations of our customers and be part of the solution when it comes to the fight against climate change. ”
