Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt has received two major certificates for strict compliance with hygiene measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. BER is now the first German airport to receive Airport Health Accreditation from the international airports association Airports Council International (ACI).

As part of this certification, ACI assesses the hygiene measures and procedures put in place at airports after the COVID-19 pandemic began. Shortly before, BER was also the first German airport to be certified by Deutsches Hygienezertifikat. Both certificates guarantee a high level of safety for passengers during their stay in Terminals 1 and 5 of the new airport.

For both certificates, the equipment in the terminals and the processes from check-in to baggage claim were checked according to strict specifications. These include equipping the terminals with plexiglass panes, distance markers or disinfectant dispensers, as well as communication with passengers and microbiological smears of surfaces in the check-in areas, gate areas or elevators by Deutsches Hygienezertifikat.

Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “We are grateful for the recognition and proud of the two certificates. From the outset, we implemented numerous measures at Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt Airport to minimize the risk of infection to passengers and employees during the corona pandemic. Our efforts to achieve a high level of security are confirmed by the two certificates. We will continue to do everything we can to maintain this standard. “

Luis Felipe de Oliveira, ACI World Director General: “I would like to warmly congratulate you and your team at Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt for being accredited to the ACI Airport Health Accreditation program. This achievement demonstrates to passengers, staff, regulators and governments that BER provides a safe airport experience for all travelers by reducing health risks, creating confidence and thus making an important contribution to revitalizing flight operations. The industry's recovery from the effects of COVID-19 requires a coordinated, global effort, and BER's accreditation demonstrates its commitment to high health and hygiene standards consistent with globally recognized standards and protocols. “

Olivier Jankovec, Director General of ACI Europe: Faced with the COVID-19 crisis, the industry has moved quickly to forge new standards to ensure the health and safety of passengers and personnel. The Berlin Brandenburg Airport Company has diligently implemented health and hygiene measures according to the ACI guidelines at BER. It is the result of hard work and dedication. “

Dr. Gerlinde Wagner, CEO of Deutsches Hygienezertifikat: “The airport company attaches great importance to impeccable hygiene and cleanliness. The facilities at BER have been optimized for this and the airport offers all the conditions for its customers to feel in good hands. ”

Airports Council International (ACI) brings together approximately 2.000 airports in 176 countries. Founded in 1991, ACI promotes collaboration between members and partners in the field of air transport. Deutsches Hygienezertifikat (DHZ) was founded in January 2008 and is an independent consultancy and testing company in Germany that rewards companies for perfect hygiene and cleanliness. Companies are certified by trained specialists based on requirements specified by the state. BER reports this to them in this press release website.
