The Scottish government has published guidelines on the formation of 'bubbles' during the festive season. Current Covid rules will be relaxed between December 23-27, so people can travel within the UK and spend Christmas together in bubbles of up to three households. The Scottish government stated that these bubbles may contain up to eight people, although children under 12 do not count towards that total and do not need to maintain a physical distance from others.

Everyone else is encouraged to keep as much as 2 meters away from people outside their own household to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus. Of course you can only be in one Christmas bubble and not visit another bubble in Scotland.

no pressure

The government says anyone considering creating a bubble should carefully consider the risks. It emphasizes that people do not need to meet or feel pressured to spend Christmas with another household. The advice is to keep as much distance as possible, limit the number of times you meet in person and get together outside if possible. For example, go for a walk instead of eating together.

Travel restrictions will be relaxed from December 23-27, so people can travel between local authorities and the four UK countries to join a bubble. If you are traveling by public transport, it is advised to book in advance where possible and to follow the rules for wearing face cover while traveling.
