It is currently raining fines on the highways in our country. One of the many annoyances in traffic is the use of a smartphone behind the wheel. It is also very dangerous and therefore many accidents occur in traffic. The police handed out 315 fines in two days in East Brabant alone last week.

The Brabants Dagblad reports this on them website. Of the 315 fines, 248 fines were issued for holding a tablet or smartphone while driving. The remaining 67 drivers were banned for other offenses, such as speeding and overtaking on the right. Driving licenses were even taken because of massive speeding offenses.

For the past two years, the police have had a touring car with which they carry out unobtrusive checks on Dutch highways. In this coach are police officers who discreetly keep an eye on drivers for bells behind the wheel. From the coach they have a better view of the cars and trucks.

The coach is followed by inconspicuous cars with police officers in them, as soon as a police officer in the coach sees a driver with a smartphone or tablet, this is passed on to the police officer in the striking car and the driver is stopped and a fine is handed out. This is a very expensive joke, as a fine for holding a phone while driving costs 240 euros. With the help of this coach, thousands of drivers calling and appending have already been caught on Dutch roads.
