The demand for used cars is increasing, partly because the car is a corona-proof mobility solution. Alphabet has therefore tightened up its occasion lease proposition. Last month, a record number of used cars was purchased by consumers. Partly because of this, despite the dip during the lockdown period, more second-hand cars have now been sold to consumers than last year. In fact, the second-hand car market is growing partly thanks to corona. It is evident that the car is a comfortable means of transport in times of safe distance.

“Sales to private individuals are now even higher than before the crisis,” says Ivo Lissone, commercial director of the leasing company. For us, that also means that the sales revenues are back on track.

Research by Markteffect commissioned by BOVAG also shows that more than half of the public transport travelers opt for an alternative means of transport, 57 percent of which by car. Not everyone has their own car, which explains the rising sale of used cars. Leasing company Alphabet sees this reflected in the sale of its ex-lease cars.

In addition to sales through the outlets of Alphabet Occasions the leasing company also sees an increase in the number of applications for leasing a second-hand car, both among private individuals and on the business market.

In these uncertain times, starting entrepreneurs and freelancers do not want to commit to long-term obligations, and they prefer not to use their cash. To respond to this increasing demand, we have now launched a full online proposition for the business leasing of a young used car, via Alphabetonline, says Lissone. Being able to drive fast, an attractive price or a more fully equipped car that fits within the lease standard make leasing a second-hand car interesting. But also the possible tax benefits due to a lower addition (eg in the case of an electric car) or a lower tax value are arguments. You can also opt for a shorter contract period (from 12 months), which is also interesting for entrepreneurs'.
