Public transport companies have ordered thousands of anti-corona cough screens from glass manufacturer Steinfort Glas in Franeker for use in buses and trams. This summer Steinfort developed cough screens made of anti-reflective safety glass that meet the preconditions set by RDW in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure & Water Management. The company is certified to supply glass for the automotive industry. It also has the capacity to produce the required numbers in volume and to deliver the first screens guaranteed in early September.

Gerlof Reijneker from Steinfort Glass BV: 'We developed the cough screens together with the transport companies and a large bus manufacturer. A constructive collaboration where we worked on long-term solutions that serve both the traveler and driver / driver. For example, we use anti-reflective safety glass in accordance with ECE RP43 for the comfort of the driver and driver. After testing these screens, we received really good responses from the drivers. They also immediately saw possibilities for other windows in which they suffer from reflection. '

Public transport companies aim to have all buses and trams converted within a period of two months. The first buses equipped with cough screens are expected to hit the road in early September. After the screens have been installed, drivers and drivers do not have to wear a mouth mask. This remains mandatory for travelers. Travelers are also allowed to board the bus or tram again. TNO recommends promoting air circulation by regularly opening all front and rear doors at the stops. Black drivers again have less chance and social control is again more possible in public transport.
