Unfortunately, more and more corona infections are emerging worldwide. In addition to countries such as Belgium, Spain, Turkey and Morocco, the number of infections is also increasing in the Caribbean part of the kingdom of the island of Sint Maarten. The population and the government are concerned about the rapid increase in infections on the island with relatively few inhabitants. Nine more infections were added this weekend, health minister Richard Panneflek has announced. The schools on Sint Maarten are expected to reopen from August XNUMX, but this has been postponed due to the new outbreak.

The Caribbean island had previously reopened to tourists from Europe, and Americans will be welcome on the island from XNUMX August. Due to the new outbreak, our Ministry of Foreign Affairs has the travel advice on the website on Sunday The Netherlands worldwide for the Caribbean Sint Maarten adapted from code yellow to code orange. This means that unnecessary trips to Sint Maarten are not recommended due to the sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 infections and the associated risk.

If you are traveling to Sint Maarten for necessary reasons, you must complete a health declaration before the trip via the website: https://stmaartenentry.com/. You must also submit a negative result of a COVID-19 test no later than 72 hours before departure on arrival at Sint Maarten. Travelers to Sint Maarten are obliged to have travel insurance and when they return to the Netherlands, these travelers are urgently advised to quarantine at home for 14 days.

The islands of Curaçao, Aruba and Bonaire are still marked code yellow on the Netherlands Worldwide website. The islands of Saba and St. Eustatius also have code orange as travel advice. To date, there have been 146 confirmed corona infections and 16 coronavirus deaths in St. Maarten. Sint Maarten has approximately 42.000 inhabitants.
