From the beginning of this week, a new ANWB trauma helicopter will be flown from Volkel air base. The new trauma helicopter is of the H-135P3H type. This is registered as PH-UMC and is referred to as Lifeliner 3. The trauma helicopter has a new, more robust stretcher system. That can have more weight. The helicopter transports a mobile medical team (MMT) consisting of a trauma doctor, nurse and pilot to the scene of an incident. The team works under the direction of the Radboud UMC in Nijmegen. ANWB Medical Air Assistance (MAA) takes care of the purchase of this new trauma helicopter, which replaces the old one.

The ANWB Medical Air Assistance (MAA) organizes helicopters for medical purposes in the Netherlands with more than 8.000 flights a year. They employ 46 employees. The Medical Air Assistance flies for four trauma centers trauma centers (Amsterdam UMC location VUMC, Erasmus Medical Center, Radboud University Medical Center, University Medical Center Groningen), the Regional Ambulance facility Fryslân, for (semi) governments and for event organizations. This seven days a week and 24 hours a day. The employees are well trained, involved and inspired. The trauma helicopter is also called Lifeliner.

"Yes, you're running into a lot of trouble. Fortunately, during a shift, the teams are a pilot, nurse and doctor. Every effort is discussed with the team, how did everyone experience it? It's good to talk about that with each other so that you don't all take the misery home. They all enjoy doing extra with a good ending. At those moments George gets a little happier from his job and the big smile on his face just a little wider: Of course it does not always end well, but if you have rushed someone to the hospital and the person comes six weeks drop by later to thank you and take another look at that trauma helicopter, which gives a terribly good feeling, 'said George Stallen trauma helicopter pilot at MAA.
