The City of Leuven uses taxis to get presents for Mother's Day to all mothers in Leuven and in the boroughs in time. The city will bear the costs. This as a compensation to the shopkeepers, who are officially allowed to open the doors again a day later.

The Leuven taxis will deliver presents this Sunday to all moms in the city's territory Leuven and the boroughs, according to Het Laatste Nieuws. Flower shops that sell gifts can also make use of the one-off service. A fixed rate for deliveries was agreed in consultation with the taxi sector. The city pays for the rides.

Customers must order directly from the retailer. He then contacts the city of Leuven for delivery. You can do this until Saturday 17.00 p.m. In order to ensure a smooth delivery, the taxi drivers are given temporary access to streets where window times otherwise apply. They deliver the package and take the corona measures into account.

Taxis work according to a rotation: taxis receive a message about packages or flowers that they can pick up and transport. “The taxi sector was hit hard by the consequences of social distancing. Nor can they continue their activities online or adjust their offer. In this way, together with the shopkeepers and the city, they now make it possible for the mothers in Leuven to get a nice surprise, ”says alderman of trade Johan Geleyns (CD&V).
