Student transport will probably never be the way it was. The fact that children are allowed to return to primary school is good news for the transport companies. Also the company of David Verbaarendse and Monique Huijgens Bergen op Zoom was hit hard by the corona crisis.

But the owners already dare to look ahead to the future now that the student transport is starting up again. Sitting next to the driver is of course not possible at all, so we still have to puzzle, according to David and Monique of the Bergse company REVO Cab. During the interview in BN De Monique lets it be noticed that the news that primary schools are (partly) opening again is good news for the many drivers in the student transport that employ Verbaarendse and Huijgens.

drivers in a risk group

“What we also do: a regular driver per group of students. To prevent the virus from spreading. And we no longer provide service. We do not keep the door open and we do not help children to fasten their seat belts. But of course we also think of our drivers. We have several that are in a risk group, ”says Monique Huijgens.

TCR drivers remain in suspense

The entrepreneurs cannot look into a glass ball, but it is getting difficult. Verbaarendse thinks they will get there and also has to row with the oars they have.

"It is unreal. The first three weeks were quite tough. You heard all sorts of things and secretly thought: it will be easy. Normally we planned weeks ahead, now we plan from day to day. It is also annoying for TCR drivers. Of these, 30 have now joined us. They were already in suspense about their job at the beginning of this year and now there is uncertainty again, ”said David Verbaarendse.
