The Minister of Education, Culture and Science, Ingrid van Engelshoven, will extend the maximum period that a student in higher education is entitled to the public transport student card, initially by three months.

This measure will apply to students in higher education, because those students are entitled to the travel facility for their nominal study duration plus one extra year, while in MBO this is the nominal study duration plus three extra years. Many questions arise due to the Corona measures and studying at a distance DUO, especially regarding the student travel product.

Students ask DUO if they can save their travel rights for after the Corona measures. Educational institutions are also working hard to ensure that education continues as much as possible in an adapted form, so that students do not have to be delayed.

Ingrid van Engelshoven wants to see later whether this extension of the public transport student card is sufficient or whether it should be adjusted, depending on the course of the Corona crisis. Students can therefore use their public transport student card for three months longer.
