Ursula von der Leyen advises EU nationals not to book their summer holidays because no one can currently make reliable predictions for July and August.

"I recommend people postpone such plans," said Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who is fighting to prevent the EU from falling apart.

Von der Leyen also warned the elderly population of Europe and those with pre-existing health problems that they should remain isolated for the rest of the year. Nursing homes cannot be visited as long as there is no vaccine.

“I know that's difficult, but it's about human lives. We need to be disciplined and very patient, ”she says. "We will have to learn to live with the virus for months, probably until next year," said Ursula von der Leyen in an interview in the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag.

von der Leyen also criticized the German government's decision that vacationers could only claim a credit note for canceled trips during the corona virus crisis, and not a full refund. Across Europe, people have a legal choice whether they want the money or a voucher.
