The inhabitants of Friesland have a strong bond with the cultural heritage of their province. The complete software package for taxi companies from Pitane BV from Eindhoven is now available in the Frisian language as one of the seven new languages in which the software is available.

Nearly 28.000 Frisians were asked which language they speak at home and how well they master Frisian. A response of more than 35% indicates that the Frisian language is a lively subject. Almost 95% of all inhabitants of Fryslân can understand Frisian fairly well to very well, of which more than 60% even very well. Only 6% of the inhabitants understand Frisian with difficulty or not at all.

innovation in planning and ease of use

Pitane BV not only wants to have the name of being the best plan package on the market, but according to the makers, innovation goes further than just functionality. Everyone must be able to use the software in their own language. More than half of the Frisian population has Frisian as their mother tongue.

AFAS Software previously developed a payslip in the Frisian language on the initiative of HR service provider Parsec from Leeuwarden. Just like in the Pitane Mobility software, it is possible to determine at employee level whether someone wishes to use a Dutch or a Frisian language.

“The use of the Frisian language is promoted by the Dutch government. It goes without saying that the province of Friesland and the Frisian municipalities also attach great importance to Frisian. Nevertheless, Dutch prevails in regional business. We therefore thought it was time for a pay slip in Frisian ”, says Leo Koppelaar, Commercial Director at AFAS Software.

Microsoft also added support for a Frisian spell checker to its office software Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the Outlook e-mail service at the end of last year. Support for Frisian has already been added to Facebook, the Internet browser Firefox, the translation service Google Translate and the keyboard apps Swiftkey and Gboard.
