The GNMI consists of municipalities that work together on better local mobility policy and focuses mainly on the themes of public transport and target group transport, parking, smart mobility, road safety and sustainability. 

Jaap Berends, policy adviser of the GNMI, is one of the guest speakers during the Pitane Mobility user day in Scheveningen on September 20, 2019 at the Carlton Beach hotel.

The GNMI ensures direct substantive consultation between municipalities, ministries and other organizations. They focus on the exchange of knowledge, the promotion of municipal interests and the implementation of substantive projects. 

The 30 municipalities that direct the GNMI stand for social cohesion, sustainability and innovation and together represent 3,6 million inhabitants. The GNMI is managed by the municipalities through the GNMI Network. This includes various municipal advisory groups. In the Intermunicipal Traffic Consultation (IVO), municipalities work together on current developments that affect local accessibility at a strategic level.

Get started with improving the local taxi policy.

In recent months, municipalities and central government have jointly investigated the most effective mix of powers and instruments to improve the quality of local taxi transport. Ten municipalities participated in this process, which was carried out by GNMI on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.

In the autumn of 2018, the State Secretary for Infrastructure and Water Management promised the House of Representatives that the central government and municipalities will investigate the problems within the local taxi market and see what the most effective mix of powers and instruments is to solve these problems. . At the same time, some municipalities that are members of the GNMI have also requested support in local taxi policy from the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment.

In a number of sessions, the participants got an idea of ​​the challenges surrounding quality assurance and existing regulations in the local taxi market. The municipalities and central government have also looked at ways to improve enforcement, for example by facilitating the exchange of data between the Public Prosecution Service, the police, municipalities, ILT and RDW.
