Airport parking is not sufficient for electric cars. DThe options for parking with an electric car around airports have been further investigated. A number of airports do not yet seem ready to electrify the automotive world. The information on the subject is insufficient at many airports and it appears that it is not possible to charge electrically at some airports.

Online comparison and booking platform Flying and Parking often gets questions like:
"We are going on vacation and would like to charge our electric car, is this possible and what are the rates?"

Despite the fact that the Eindhoven company has been active in the industry since 2013, the answer to these types of questions at some airports is difficult to give and there are many uncertainties regarding the subject. That is why it was decided to investigate the possibilities at the nine largest Dutch, German and Belgian airports and to clearly map them out.

Little to no information at many of the airports

At five of the nine airports surveyed, little to no information can be found online about the options for charging an electric car. These are the airports of Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Cologne, Weeze and Charleroi. At the airports of Eindhoven and Charleroi it is not even possible to charge electrically at the official parking spaces.

Some airports do keep up with the times

The airports of Düsseldorf, Frankfurt Am Main, Brussels-Zaventem and Schiphol, however, clearly state the information. These airports have all the necessary information on the website and this information is easy to find.

Alternative options

The majority of entrepreneurs' parking initiatives lack online information and it is often not possible to charge electrically. At the nine airports surveyed, only 21 parking companies were found that make electric charging stations available.

Points of attention

It is only possible to reserve an electric charging station at an official parking location at Frankfurt am Main Airport. The other airports do not guarantee a place. However, in 17 of the 21 alternative options it is possible to make a reservation.

At airports in Belgium and Germany, it must be taken into account that the charging stations are connected to certain providers and it is not self-evident that every charging card works.
