No fewer than 296 million people used public, shared transport and taxis in Dubai in the first half of this year. The number reflects a healthy growth of 6,5 percent from the figure recorded in the same period last year, at 277 million people.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads & Transport Authority, Dubai, explains the statistics: "March was the busiest month in the first half of the year, attracting approximately 53 million people using public transport" .

The distribution of traffic flows in March was as follows: 18 million people used Dubai Metro, 15,7 million people used taxis, 14,3 million people used public buses, 3,2 million people used shared transport (e-Hail and smart car rental ), 1,3 million people used sea transit means and 555.000 people used the tram service.

"Dubai Metro Red and Green Lines transported 102 million people during the first half of this year (66 million for the Red Line and 36 million for the Green Line)," said Al Tayer.

He added, "Dubai Metro accounts for the largest number of public and shared transport users (34 percent), followed by taxis (30 percent) and public buses (27 percent). "
