In the first four months of 2022, 2.440.672 traffic violations were detected. These include speeding, driving through a red traffic light and using handheld telephones. Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of over 9%. At that time, 2.233.562 traffic fines were imposed under the Administrative Law Enforcement Traffic Regulations Act (Wahv). COVID-19 has played a substantial role in society in recent years. The effects of this on traffic were also observable. The picture in the first four months of this year is different. For example, the increase in the number of traffic violations in the first four months of 2022 can most likely be explained by increasing traffic activities after corona measures were relaxed.

An increase in the number of traffic violations detected on the basis of the Wahv can be seen, among other things, in the violations registered by vehicle registration: 2.294.041 in the first four months of this year, compared to 2.065.079 in the same period last year. The number of standing postures has decreased: from 168.483 in the first quarter of 2021, to 146.631 in the same period of 2022. This will partly be the result of priority choices by local authorities and the police in the deployment of capacity. Fewer fines were also issued during the actions of police unions for a new collective labor agreement and instead drivers were given a warning more often when they stopped.

The most commonly observed traffic violations are for speeding. In the first four months of this year, there were 1.981.082 fines for exceeding the speed limit, compared to 1.815.021 in the same period last year. The majority of speeding violations are registered on license plate.

In the first quarter of 2022, 918.035 speeding violations were detected using speed cameras, compared to 720.366 in 2021. Mobile radar sets saw a decrease from 495.976 speeding fines in the first months of 2021 to 438.881 this year. The number of speeding violations detected with speed control systems has risen from 554.308 in the first quarter of 2021 to 586.058 this year.

Foreign traffic offenders

In the first four months of 2022, more traffic violations were also detected on foreign license plates. The number of traffic fines under the Wahv sent to a foreign traffic offender increased from 167.139 in Q2021 227.642 to XNUMX this year. The four-monthly overview of the traffic fines under the Administrative Law Enforcement Traffic Regulations Act (Wahv), or Mulder Act, is compiled by the Ministry of Justice and Security, the police, the CJIB and the Public Prosecution Service (OM), according to the Public Prosecution Service.
