In the coming years, target group transport in the Drechtsteden will be in the hands of De Vier Gewesten (DVG) Passenger Transport.

From 1 August 2025, DVG, together with transport partners HaarsGroep and Taxistam, will provide pupil transport, youth care transport and WMO transport in the region. The contract, awarded by various municipalities and institutions, runs until 31 July 2029.

DVG will organize the student transport for the municipalities of Alblasserdam, Dordrecht, Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, Papendrecht, Sliedrecht and Zwijndrecht. This transport is essential for students who cannot travel to school independently due to a disability or other circumstances. In addition, the youth care transport is coordinated by the Youth Service Organization, which is responsible for the collaboration between ten municipalities in South Holland South. This transport is specifically aimed at children and young people who depend on special transport for treatment, day care or other forms of youth care. The WMO transport, which is intended for residents with a mobility disability, is carried out by DVG on behalf of Stroomlijn.

smooth running

In order to ensure a smooth transition to the new transport scheme, a kick-off meeting was held at Stroomlijn last week. During this meeting, the first steps were taken to carefully prepare for the implementation. All parties involved are working together to ensure that transport runs smoothly from August 2025. The emphasis is on the quality of transport and the availability of sufficiently qualified drivers. This is an important point of attention, as the sector has been experiencing a shortage of drivers for some time.

Parents of children who are taken to special education by taxi buses can breathe a sigh of relief. After the financial problems at transport company RMC, which last year indicated that it was making losses of hundreds of thousands on target group transport in the Drechtsteden, a successor has now been found.

DVG Personenvervoer states in a statement that it is satisfied with the award of the contract. “We are very satisfied with the award and look forward to providing high-quality and reliable transport for the residents of the Drechtsteden together with our partners,” said a spokesperson for DVG.

The carrier emphasizes that accessibility and safety remain important spearheads in the service. For many people in the region, target group transport is an indispensable facility to be able to participate in society. By working together with experienced carriers such as HaarsGroep and Taxistam, DVG wants to guarantee that passengers can count on reliable and high-quality transport services.

With this new agreement, DVG is taking the next step in the further development of target group transport in the region. The coming months will be dedicated to further preparation and coordination with municipalities, institutions and travellers. The ultimate goal is to offer a smooth and well-organised transport service to the residents who depend on it every day from August 2025.
