Passenger attendant Axxicom Airport Caddy has a first at Schiphol. As the first handler in the world, the company introduces three electric ambulifts from the Austrian manufacturer Bulmor.

These innovative vehicles are an important step in Axxicom's strategy to make operations at the airport fully electric. The so-called e-SideBulls should contribute to a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions, with which Schiphol sets a new standard in sustainable aviation logistics.

The ambulifts have a crucial function at the airport. They are used to bring passengers with disabilities on board aircraft that do not have access to a passenger bridge. Traditionally, this was done with fossil fuel vehicles, but with the introduction of the electric e-SideBulls this is changing. These vehicles are operated by a driver and a co-driver, and can carry up to seven passengers in their cabin.

sustainability central

The e-SideBulls are not just a replacement for the older diesel models. They are designed to have a significant impact on the airport's ecological footprint. According to Axxicom Airport Caddy, the electric drive can save up to 400.000 kilos of CO2 over the lifespan of a single vehicle. This means that the ambulifts fit in seamlessly with Schiphol and Axxicom's objectives to make airport activities more sustainable. The choice for Bulmor, a renowned family business from Austria, also emphasises the pursuit of quality and innovation.

“With this investment, we are taking a big step towards a fully electric fleet at Schiphol,” explains an Axxicom spokesperson. “Our passengers deserve the best service, and we want to offer this in the most sustainable way.” The vehicles are deployed at various locations at the airport, so their impact is immediately noticeable in daily operations.

To make the new ambulifts possible, Axxicom Airport Caddy concluded a lease contract with TCR Group. This company specializes in ground handling equipment and provides support for the implementation and maintenance of the e-SideBulls. The collaboration ensures that Axxicom can fully focus on its core task: providing comfortable and accessible guidance for passengers with disabilities.

The choice to lease instead of buy offers additional flexibility. This model enables Axxicom to integrate new technologies quickly without heavy upfront investments. It is expected that other airports worldwide will follow the development closely and may consider a similar move.

new standard

With this introduction, Axxicom Airport Caddy sets a new standard in the handling industry. The use of electric vehicles at airports is no longer a pipe dream, but a reality. Schiphol, which has been investing in sustainability for years, can strengthen its position as a leader in environmentally friendly aviation with this.

Although the introduction of three electric ambulifts is just a start, everything points to this step being a catalyst for further greening of the airport. Both Axxicom and Schiphol continue to invest in innovation, so that passengers can count on high-quality and sustainable services.
