The work at Amersfoort station is nearing completion now that ProRail is entering the final phase.

Intensive work will be carried out on the track from Thursday, August 15 to Sunday, August 18, which will bring train traffic to and from Amersfoort to a complete standstill. This will have a significant impact on many travelers, but there are various alternatives available to keep the city accessible.

During this period, ProRail uses both express and stop buses to offer travelers the opportunity to reach their destination. From Amersfoort station there will be stop buses to Baarn and Amersfoort Schothorst, and express buses to Apeldoorn. These buses depart from the P+R area at Amersfoort station, which means that travelers have to adjust their route slightly, but can still travel quickly.

For travelers who want to travel from Utrecht Centraal to Amersfoort, ProRail offers an alternative route: you can travel by train to Driebergen-Zeist and from there take the express bus to Amersfoort. This requires some planning and extra travel time, but ensures that the connection with Amersfoort is maintained.

Travelers who normally take the route between Utrecht Centraal and Zwolle are advised to detour via Almere. The intercity between Zwolle and Utrecht will run via this route, so no transfer is required. For those who need to get from Utrecht Centraal to Deventer, a detour via Arnhem Centraal is the recommended route.

Furthermore, travelers can travel between Twente and Amsterdam Central/Schiphol via Zwolle, while the connection between Amersfoort Schothorst and Zwolle will continue with four trains per hour. Travelers between Amersfoort and Ede-Wageningen are served by the RRReis stop bus, which takes them to their destination without too many problems.

NS advises all travelers to consult the NS Travel Planner just before departure, so that there are no surprises and that any additional travel time or extra transfers can be taken into account in a timely manner. All necessary information about alternative routes and timetables can be found on the NS website, ns.nl/beterereis.

The summer of 2024 is one of the busiest periods for track work. Not only in Amersfoort, but throughout the country, large-scale repairs and improvements are taking place. Travelers therefore have to deal with delays and diversions, which can sometimes cause significant inconvenience. Yet these activities are essential for the safety and reliability of the railways in the Netherlands.

ProRail works closely with NS to ensure that inconvenience to travelers is kept to a minimum. The use of extra buses and the provision of alternative travel options are some of the ways in which the impact of the work is being attempted to be reduced. For many travelers this means an adjustment to their travel plans, but it is expected that this will ultimately result in a better functioning rail network.

Work will take place several more times in the coming weeks, especially on routes that are used intensively. ProRail and NS do everything they can to inform travelers in a timely manner and offer appropriate solutions for the expected nuisance.
