The Freedom of Mobility Foundation chooses the German magnetic train Transrapid 09.
The Freedom of Mobility Foundation sees an important role for the Transrapid in the Netherlands, as a replacement for the conventional Intercity (IC) and possibly even the high-speed train (HST) and short air lines. In contrast to previous Dutch projects such as the Zuiderzeelijn and Rondje Randstad, the foundation believes that these plans are inadequate and that the Transrapid has been incorrectly marketed.
Although the performance of the Transrapid is significantly better than that of the HST, the Transrapid should not be considered simply a replacement. The project should be seen as a new interpretation of the IC segment, an essential part of the public transport network with an important social function.
brochures
The foundation has developed its vision in various brochures, such as the “Airport Line”, “A2 Corridor” and “International Connections” and the “Almere-Utrecht-Breda” brochure. This documenten outline how the Transrapid can be integrated into the existing Dutch transport system and emphasize the benefits of this technology for mobility in the Netherlands.
The Airport Line brochure describes how the Transrapid can provide a fast and efficient connection between important hubs such as Schiphol and other major cities. This would not only reduce travel time but also reduce pressure on the existing rail network and airports. The A2 Corridor brochure focuses on connecting cities along the A2 highway, where the Transrapid can contribute to a seamless and fast transport connection through the heart of the Netherlands. The international connections emphasize the Transrapid's potential to better connect the Netherlands with neighboring countries, which would benefit international trade and cooperation.
sustainable alternative
Another important brochure concerns the Almere-Utrecht-Breda line. This route would significantly improve mobility in one of the most densely populated and economically important areas of the Netherlands. By creating a fast connection between these cities, the Transrapid would not only reduce travel time but also provide a sustainable alternative to car traffic and short flights.

"We have signed the petition and as a foundation we want to give a presentation at the International maglev conference in Malmö."
Wouter van Gessel - chairman and founder of the Freedom of Mobility Foundation
The Freedom of Mobility Foundation has petition signed with full conviction for Transrapid. The organization is determined to share their vision and will therefore give a presentation at the International Maglev Congress in Malmö. Here they will further explain their plans and argue for the use of the Transrapid as a crucial component of the future Dutch transport system.
benefits
The Transrapid offers significant advantages over both the conventional IC and the HST. Thanks to its unique magnetic levitation technology, the Transrapid can achieve higher speeds with lower energy consumption and less wear and tear on the infrastructure. This results in lower maintenance costs and higher reliability. Furthermore, thanks to its flexibility and speed, the Transrapid can be a valuable addition to the existing public transport network, providing a fast and efficient connection between key urban and economic centres.
The plans of the Freedom of Mobility Foundation represent an ambitious but achievable vision for the future of Dutch public transport. By integrating Transrapid into the IC segment and developing strategic corridors, the Netherlands can become an example of innovative and sustainable mobility. The presentation at the International Maglev Congress provides an excellent opportunity to share this vision with an international audience and gain support for the implementation of the Transrapid in the Netherlands.
