Traveling by bicycle and train: DB launches new folding bicycle subscription with Brompton. Deutsche Bahn (DB) is offering a new subscription with the London folding bicycle specialist Brompton from June: those interested can rent a high-quality folding bicycle for 41 euros per month and take it on the bus and train for free.
The folding bikes can be easily and quickly folded into a portable package and are therefore particularly space-saving. This makes it very convenient to take it with you on public transport. When folded, the bikes count as luggage – meaning commuters can take them on buses and trains regardless of bike tickets and closing times. The monthly subscription price includes delivery within Germany, insurance and an extensive service check after six months. Customers contract directly with Brompton. The contract term is twelve months and then ends automatically. Customers who want to keep the folding bike can then renew their subscription or buy a new Brompton folding bike at a discounted price.
With the subscription, DB wants to promote the combination of bicycle and train. As part of a pilot project, DB and Brompton have been testing the folding bicycle subscription for the Stuttgart S-Bahn for twelve months. The response has been consistently positive, so it product range will be rolled out nationwide from June 1, 2023, according to the German railway company.
