According to operator Blue Amigo, there is no other option than bankruptcy due to rising costs and disappointing income.

The ferry Rozenburg-Maassluis that sails daily on the Nieuwe Waterweg between Maassluis and Rozenburg suddenly stopped sailing yesterday afternoon. The operator of the ferry service has filed for bankruptcy and ceased operations immediately. As a result, travelers were stranded at the jetties. Buses were used to transport stranded people and the local rowing club also deployed a bicycle and foot ferry.

The ferry service between Maassluis and Rozenburg is more than just a means of transport. It is also a living piece of cultural heritage, reflecting the maritime past of the Netherlands.

A country known for its network of canals, canals and rivers, the Netherlands has a rich maritime history. These waterways are often the lifelines of cities and towns and form the basis of an ancient transportation system that is still in use today. An excellent example of this tradition is the ferry service between Maassluis and Rozenburg, a crucial and culturally important connecting line in the heart of the country. The ferry service between Maassluis and Rozenburg is one of the oldest ferry services in the Netherlands and has been used for centuries as an essential transport link between the two banks of the Nieuwe Waterweg.

Blue Amigo

As a nautical family, they have been making all connections over water possible for more than 50 years, with and for people, with vessels and expertise. In recent years they have experienced strong growth and they can now call themselves one of the largest nautical service providers in the Netherlands. However, the operator says that the province did not want to help with enough money, reports The Rijnmond. Due to the corona pandemic, the number of travelers was disappointing. Repairs also turned out to be more expensive than expected and fuel costs were much higher than expected, according to operator Blue Amigo.

bankruptcy

CNV Vakmensen cannot understand the bankruptcy filing of the Maassluis-Rozenburg ferry service by the operator Blue Amigo. "In the past year, the company has made a mess of it," says CNV negotiator Evert-Jan van de Mheen. 'Now about 25 people lose their jobs because of it. It's very sad.' The CNV director also believes that too little has been done to prevent this bankruptcy.

According to Blue Amigo, the province refuses to help to keep the loss-making ferry connection in service.

According to Rijnmond, a replacement foot and bicycle ferry will be deployed from Friday 26 May between 6.00 a.m. and 15.00 p.m. After that, buses run. On Saturday, May 27, the ferry will be used again between 6.00:9.00 and 16.00:24.00 and between 28:29 and 30:XNUMX. On Sunday XNUMX, Monday XNUMX and Tuesday XNUMX May, the ferry will be used all day.
