Despite the current challenges, the situation of the TOMP API and the working group also offers opportunities.

The TOMP API (Transport Operator to Mobility Provider-Application Programming Interface) has become a crucial tool in the integration and collaboration between transport operators and mobility providers in recent years. It has led to the first steps in a standardized data exchange, which has contributed to the growth of the entire mobility sector.

It seems that TOMP is in an identity crisis, due to the dynamics and the continuous evolution of the mobility market.

The API was originally designed as a standardized protocol that allows for consistent communication, but the rapidly changing technological environment and proliferation of European protocols are challenging this consistency.

The working group around the TOMP API seems to see the need to evolve and integrate other protocols to maintain its relevance and usability in the current market conditions. This adaptive approach is essential for the survival of the TOMP API, but at the same time brings complexity and challenges. The inclusion of new protocols requires a thorough review and adjustment of the current structure, without compromising the core functionalities.

Despite the current challenges, the situation of the TOMP API and the working group also offers opportunities.

In terms of technological innovation, the TOMP-WG could consider developing a more flexible, modular system. This would allow the API to integrate more quickly with new protocols and technologies, without affecting core functionality. This could be achieved through microservices architecture, which makes it possible to develop and update individual functions and services without having to review the entire API.

On the other hand, the TOMP working group, which supervises the further development of the TOMP API, is faced with a non-existent funding. This has a direct impact on the ability to ensure the extension of the API. Insufficient funding hinders the group's ability to innovate and make the necessary adjustments needed to meet changing market demands.

"My appreciation continues to go to the members of the TOMP working group who work daily for the most valuable API in the mobility sector."

The working group should engage in dialogue with policy makers and public funding bodies. Governments and organizations such as the European Union have programs and funds available for technological development and innovation. By tapping into such funding opportunities, the TOMP Working Group could secure the necessary resources to advance the evolution and expansion of the API.

Despite the current challenges, the situation of the TOMP API and the working group also offers opportunities. By embracing an adaptive approach, securing funding and driving technological innovation, the TOMP API and the Working Group have the potential to overcome these challenges, strengthen their position in the mobility sector, and thus contribute to the evolution of this rapidly changing industry.
