According to the industry, about seven million people have now subscribed to the new Deutschland ticket. Among them are about two million people who did not have a subscription to public transport before the introduction, according to the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV).

The good start of the presale has been confirmed in recent weeks. The demand for the 'Deutschlandticket' is at a consistently high level,” said association president Ingo Wortmann. The ticket for 49 euros per month is valid since May 1. It entitles you to travel on all local and regional buses and trains across the country. The ticket is intended as a subscription, but can be canceled monthly. It is usually non-transferable. The ticket can be purchased as a job ticket if the employer pays at least 25 percent of the price.

The VDV assumes that in time five to six million new subscribers will opt for a Germany ticket. According to the association's forecast, some eleven million regular customers could switch from their current subscription to the Deutschlandticket. However, some people keep their subscription to the regional network - even though it may be more expensive than the ticket for Germany. Tickets from the regional network are transferable or allow you to bring bicycles or other persons on weekends.

In recent days, reports have been received from various cities of long queues at the sales and service points of the transport companies. According to the VDV, more than half of the tickets have so far been ordered via smartphone. The other half is therefore issued as a chip card. With a transition period until the end of the year, the ticket can also be issued on paper with a digitally readable QR code.

When ordering a Deutschlandticket chip card, there may be a delay because there were not enough tickets available everywhere. “We were also aware of the problem in advance. In the near future we need up to 30 million chip cards for German public transport. Given the semiconductor crisis, the high demand for chips from many sectors and the war in Ukraine, delivery delays will inevitably occur,” said VDV chairman Wortmann.

However, it will be difficult for the Deutschland ticket to match the sales figures of last summer's €9 ticket. According to the VDV, about 21 million of the special tickets were sold nationwide in the first month of validity. "Together with the approximately ten million subscribers who automatically receive the discount ticket, the figure of 30 million tickets per month previously calculated by the industry has not only been reached, but even slightly exceeded," said Wortmann.

The figures relate to the whole of June last year. The ticket for Germany, on the other hand, was only valid for nine days. However, since it works as a subscription model, it can be assumed that new sales may decrease towards the end of the month.
