The runway is being renovated for safety reasons. The current track, which was extensively renovated in 2005, needs to be replaced due to wear and tear on the top layer of the asphalt. Due to this wear, there is a risk that small particles will detach from the asphalt, which can cause damage to aircraft. On Monday 8 May, Dura Vermeer will start setting up the work area for the runway renovation at 7 am. The contractor starts by erecting fencing to cordon off the work site, placing the 'construction chain' and removing the lights and markings.
