Based on the negotiations surrounding the spring decision-making process, the cabinet has decided to terminate the STAP budget. From 2024, the government will no longer make any resources available for this. Despite the termination of the STAP budget, the need for lifelong development remains.

Especially in the current situation on the labor market. That is why Minister Van Gennip of Social Affairs and Employment is looking into how she can continue to encourage this in the coming period. The application period of Monday 1 May will continue as planned. EUR 32 million is available for this period. Interested parties can register for STAP budget via the UWV STAP portal.

Last year, more than 214.000 people successfully applied for government funding. They received an average of 800 euros for additional or retraining.

The STAP training budget will be cancelled. The message that the government will no longer make money available for STAP from next year has hit the Avérotors hard, where the UWV benefits agency implements the scheme for the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. Several UWV divisions, including STAP, are located in the tower in Leeuwarden. From the end of 2021, about 150 people have been trained to be able to implement the scheme, which took effect in March last year. It is still unclear whether the floors where STAP is located will be empty or will be filled in some other way.
