Today is finally the day, the new Intercity New Generation (ICNG) of the Dutch Railways is running for the first time today. As of today, the NS will test how the new train works in practice. By testing, any teething problems can be solved and digestions can be applied by the French manufacturer Alstom. Travelers can now only use this new train on the high-speed route of the Intercity direct between Amsterdam Central and Rotterdam Central. More routes will follow later, The Hague-Eindhoven, Amsterdam-Brussels, Amsterdam-Groningen/Leeuwarden and Amsterdam-Enschede.
The ICNG can reach speeds of 200 kilometers per hour, but this speed will only be achieved on the high-speed line. The purchase of 99 ICNGs is good for no fewer than 33.000 seats. The train is also fully equipped, there are sockets and USB connections. The train also has comfortable seats and WiFi. In the coming year, the current intercity trains will be used by the NS replaced on the High Speed Line by the new Intercity's New Generation.
