In the weekend of April 15 and 16, Brussels Mobility is also organizing the Brussels motorbike & scooter safety days, which are entirely devoted to the road safety of motorcycle and scooter drivers in Brussels.

Although motorcycling is primarily a passion, it is unfortunately also the mode of transport with the highest number of accidents. Motorized two-wheelers account for 20% of the deaths and serious injuries on our roads. Brussels Mobility provides an overview of the new technical inspection for motorcycles and organizes two days on 15 and 16 April with technical check-ups and training for drivers.

Since January 1, 2023, motorcycles must undergo a technical inspection after an accident and before they are sold as a second-hand vehicle. In January and February, 148 motorcyclists presented their motorcycles in Brussels for inspection and 22,97% of the vehicles received a red card!

The inspection of motorcycles focuses on road safety and the impact of the motorcycle on the environment and noise pollution: brakes, lights, reflective devices, axles, wheels, suspension, noise and emissions, etc.

"People who ride motorcycles know better than anyone else: the condition of their vehicle is the best guarantee of their safety. This first step in the technical inspection of motorcycles allows independent control of the vehicle in two important stages: at a second-hand sale and after an accident. The inspection therefore contributes to safety and also guarantees that the engine is in good condition and can drive on our roads without causing any danger or hindrance. In the event of a leak, contamination or a faulty or noisy exhaust one will have to go back to the garage!"
