“Too many Rotterdammers struggle with poverty, loneliness or poor health,” says Karin van Elten, chair of De Rotterdamse Uitdaging.

Social involvement is one of the spearheads of the Rotterdam passenger transport company Trevvel. This is reflected in both day-to-day transport activities and initiatives such as the 'Uit & Thuis' calendar, which offers fully catered, low-cost or even free group activities to vulnerable population groups.

The transport company, under the leadership of Arno van Haasterrecht, a model of a transport company that, in addition to its transport task, is committed to helping Rotterdammers who are struggling with poverty, loneliness or poor health. It is precisely in these issues that De Rotterdamse Uitdag and Trevvel want to take an important step together in offering an answer.

“Many Rotterdammers could use a helping hand and by joining forces, Trevvel and the Rotterdamse Challenge are contributing to this. We have insight into hidden problems.”

Trevvel will provide passenger transport for initiatives of the foundation and will provide support for its projects. This includes projects to combat loneliness. “Trevvel's operators and drivers come into daily contact with people for whom this problem is unfortunately the raw reality,” explains Van Haasterrecht. “This gives us insight into this problem, which normally often remains hidden.”

Moreover, the collaboration with the Rotterdamse Uitdaging fits in with Trevvel's broader social commitment. “With our own Trevvel Social welfare department, we offer customers all the tools they need to tackle social, emotional or financial problems,” Van Haasterrecht explains. “Thanks to the collaboration with the Rotterdam Challenge, we can now achieve even more in these areas.” As a partner, Trevvel makes even more projects of De Rotterdamse Uitdag possible. “This shared desire to move together for the people of Rotterdam therefore forms a solid foundation for the new partnership,” says van Haasterrecht.

“We also call ourselves 'social brokers' and are the link between parties that can mean a lot to each other, but often do not know how to find each other”

The foundation connects organizations that work on solutions to problems in society with local companies that have the capital, materials or knowledge to realize those solutions. In this way they stimulate social involvement, we activate valuable networks and we make people more self-reliant and 'more cooperative'.
