On 1 and 2 July it is possible to cycle or walk across the entire Afsluitdijk between 08.00:18.00 and XNUMX:XNUMX.

On Saturday 1 July and Sunday 2 July 2023, Rijkswaterstaat will open the cycle path on the Afsluitdijk for cyclists and walkers. The temporary opening is one of the measures to enable cycling and walking on the Afsluitdijk now that the work on the Afsluitdijk is taking longer than originally thought.

The cycle path has been closed since April 1, 2019 due to the renovation of the Afsluitdijk. On 1 and 2 July it is possible to cycle or walk across the entire Afsluitdijk between 08.00:18.00 and XNUMX:XNUMX. Cyclists and walkers can use the new cycle path along the Wadden Sea side for the first time that weekend. This cycle path was realized on the initiative of the region.

Opening up the cycle path during the work is a complex operation. We are still fully working at the sluice complexes in Den Oever and Kornwerderzand. After the opening on 1 and 2 July, the cycle path will close again due to the work on the Afsluitdijk. The A7 over the Afsluitdijk will remain available for road traffic on 1 and 2 July.

Collaboration with interest groups

Opening up the cycle path is one of the measures to enable cycling and walking on the Afsluitdijk. In the exploration of measures, we collaborated with interest groups for cycling and walking. They are happy with this opening, but would have preferred the Afsluitdijk to open more often for cyclists and walkers.
