The DAF Trucks factory in Westerlo will benefit from an order.

With a total order of 1500 trucks, it has leading UK rental and leasing company Asset Alliance Group placed one of the largest orders in DAF's recent history. Of these, 75 are fully electric vehicles that, in combination with renewed engines and battery packs, are good for a range of up to 500 kilometers, according to DAF.

DAF Truck Sales Director Russell Patmore and Asset Alliance Group CEO Willie Paterson mark a new page in DAF's history. This spring, the manufacturer will start production of the electric heavy and medium-duty trucks in a new factory on the industrial site in Eindhoven.

Since the axles and cabins of the ordered models are made in Flanders, Westerlo will also benefit from a large order from the United Kingdom.

For the development of the electric vehicles, DAF worked together with VDL, which supplies the batteries and electric motor for the small numbers of e-trucks currently being produced. VDL would initially market the electric trucks under its own name. After an introductory meeting between DAF president Preston Feight and VDL CEO Willem van der Leegte, the joint development of the truck got under way.
