Decency prevails in the settlement of contracts with the municipalities.

Clients, municipalities and suppliers were unpleasantly surprised when the Rotterdam carrier Maasstad Regie Centrale (MRC) unilaterally pulled the plug on all contracts with the clients in October 2022. Now that the dust has settled, the municipalities of Amstelveen and Aalsmeer have announced that they have reached a settlement with MRC that has canceled out the claims of the parties against each other. In addition to the municipalities, Stroomlijn was also duped by the stop of the transport company with the implementation of student transport.

Initially, municipalities had not paid all outstanding amounts due to MRC's non-compliance with its contractual obligations. The unpaid amount to MRC was, according to the social domain contract manager, a considerably lower amount than what the municipalities believed they were entitled to due to the extra costs they had to incur due to the termination of the agreement. The municipalities therefore believed that they owed nothing to MRC.

After the company itself came out with the news, Marijn van Ballegoijen (PvdA) alderman for Care and WMO was a huge job to find a replacement for the Amstelveners within a minimal time frame. Also into the WMO transport Aalsmeer was endangered and a number of transport lots of the student transport Drechtsteden had to be provided with a new carrier.

The company MRC was rather successful after winning several tenders in a row. The shareholders of the Maasstad Regie Centrale (MRC) stated Scarf the Winter (1959), previously director of the RTC, to the Rotterdamse Taxi Centrale to want to lead their organization from April 1, 2022. The Rotterdam MRC also towed the first plot that year student transport Drecht cities on hold for the municipalities of Barendrecht, Hoeksche Waard, Capelle aan den IJssel, Nissewaard, Ridderkerk and Rotterdam.

MRC was one of the fast-growing taxi companies in the Rotterdam region, but that soon changed. In August 2022, staff shortages may be at the root of a complaints and after the municipality of Amstelveen requested an improvement plan from the carrier, which initially did not lead to the desired result, the municipality nevertheless waived a fine.

In the meantime, MRC continued to invest in the fleet and necessary innovation to meet all specifications requirements. In mid-September, the first wave of layoffs of internal employees came and payments to various suppliers immediately stagnated. The decision was made in early October. In a press release, MRC pointed out that “these are difficult times for many companies in the passenger transport industry and it is difficult to get enough drivers behind the wheel.” Nevertheless, the company was happy that the orders for the new school year had got off to a good start. So that was not the reason to stop.

The owners are open about the real reason to pull the plug. Personal circumstances had arisen from one of the shareholders that no longer make it possible to put heart and soul into the business any longer. On the other hand, there were business economic conditions that could lead to problems in the long term. The shareholders wanted to be ahead of that.
