The decision comes as no surprise.

D66 was quite enthusiastic, but the green dream of PvdA, Party for the Animals, SP and ChristenUnie to definitively close the airport is off the track. Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA) is a crucial part of the transport infrastructure in the Netherlands, connecting Rotterdam, The Hague and the surrounding areas with destinations both domestic and international. However, there are numerous reasons why RTHA should not disappear, including the economic impact, the support for business and tourism and the indispensable role of RTHA for emergency services.

The Rotterdam city council does not intend to close up Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA) and use it for the construction of new homes and a city park.

If it were only up to the Rotterdam D66, the future of RTHA would be uncertain. In the run-up to the Provincial Council elections of 15 March 2023, the party made no secret of the fact that the number of flights must be gradually reduced until 2040. In that year, the airport will have to close completely and according to the party, the slow phasing out meant there was time for more alternatives.

Groenlinks also received no support for the closure. GroenLinks councilor Jeroen Postma went one step further and stated that aircraft noise and CO2 emissions can only really be reduced if the former Zestienhoven closes completely. Something that is absolutely non-negotiable for the VVD, because for the liberals the closure of the former Zestienhoven is not an issue.

The airport plays an important role in the economic development of the region, supporting businesses and tourism and providing emergency aid.

Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA) is a crucial part of the transport infrastructure in the Netherlands, connecting Rotterdam, The Hague and the surrounding areas with destinations both domestic and international. Despite the important role RTHA plays, there have been calls to close the airport due to concerns about noise and environmental impact. However, there are numerous reasons why RTHA should not disappear, including the economic impact, the support for business and tourism and the indispensable role of RTHA for emergency services.

In addition, RTHA is also an important hub for the tourism sector. The airport offers direct connections to popular holiday destinations in Europe and is therefore invaluable to the region's tourism sector. Also, tourists visiting the region can easily travel to other parts of the country or reach international destinations.

Rotterdam The Hague Airport is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but has a strict night regime between 23.00:07.00 and XNUMX:XNUMX, in which only certain types of air traffic are allowed.
