Thanks to the Regiotaxi, people with a mobile disability can still travel by public transport, even from door to door. The special taxi also offers a solution for people who live far from a public transport stop. Until now, the province of Utrecht was the only client. From 1 January 2024, it will do this together with affiliated municipalities. Student transport is also contracted out.
The regional taxi is a passenger bus, wheelchair bus or taxi that you share with other travellers. The driver will take you from your home to the address you want to go up to a maximum of 25 kilometers. In principle, anyone can travel with the Regiotaxi. People with a Wmo pass pay an adjusted rate. The regional taxi can be booked by phone or online.
The tender also ensures that there will be one large regional taxi system for almost the entire province. Until now, there were several regional taxi systems in the province of Utrecht. The merger ensures lower fixed costs and the same rules for the traveler. Only Veenendaal, Renswoude and Rhenen remain with the Valleihopper and work together with Gelderland municipalities as the Foodvalley region.
With the new tender, the municipalities and the province want to continue to offer reliable and safe transport in the coming years to travelers who would otherwise find it much more difficult or even impossible to travel. Extra attention is paid to matters that, according to a survey, are important for this target group: reliability and predictability, digital but also telephone availability, attention to the driving style of the driver and his or her interaction with passengers, the possibility to sit in the front of the car and spacious vans for larger wheelchairs.
The contract will be placed on the market in the spring of 2023. The award of the transport will take place in the summer of 2023. The start of the transport will take place on 1-1-2024. For student transport and youth aid transport, transport will start with the new school year of 2024-2025.
