With these figures, KLM is approaching the result of 2019. This is due to the rapid recovery in demand for travel, after many corona travel restrictions were lifted at the beginning of 2022.

In 2022 KLM Group achieved an operating profit of €706 million on a turnover of €10,7 billion. The operating margin was 6,6%. The difficult start-up of the operation meant that customers did not receive the service they are used to from KLM and presented major challenges for colleagues. Still, the numbers show that people want to keep traveling.

With these figures, KLM is approaching the result of 2019. This is due to the rapid recovery in demand for travel, after many corona travel restrictions were lifted at the beginning of 2022. At the same time, KLM is taking into account a number of uncertainties in 2023. Geopolitical tensions, inflation, a possible recession and high fuel prices are developments that could affect KLM's financial performance.

"We have achieved these results thanks to the loyalty of our customers and the efforts of all colleagues. In the past year, colleagues have made a huge effort to provide a good experience to our customers under difficult circumstances. Major challenges remain, but if we look to Looking at the results for 2022, we have reason to be cautiously optimistic. The Dutch want to continue flying and we see that global travel is increasing. At the same time, there are uncertainties that we still have to take into account, such as inflation, the price development of kerosene and the tight labor market "In the coming years, we will continue to invest in the service and products for our customers with a focus on sustainability. These investments are only possible with structural cost control. In this way, we make KLM future-proof and offer our customers unforgettable experiences."

All markets performed above expectations in 2022, except in Asia where ongoing COVID-19 restrictions continued to hamper the recovery, particularly in China. Cargo once again made an important contribution to KLM's results. E&M also recovered, despite longer delivery times for parts. Transavia had a very good summer and realized a turnover that is back to pre-COVID-19 levels.

KLM welcomed 25,8 million passengers on board last year and Transavia 7,7 million. Due to the operational problems at Schiphol and labor shortages in its own operations, the customer experience with an NPS score of 37 remained well below the target of 50. Now that things have largely returned to Schiphol, they are happy to see the NPS rising again. The introduction of the new Premium Comfort class on board intercontinental aircraft was positively received by customers last year.

"As soon as the travel restrictions were lifted at the beginning of the year, demand for air travel quickly recovered. As a result, KLM was able to repay the loans from the Dutch government's support package as early as the second quarter of 2022. KLM is still using a postponement of payroll tax for €1,4 billion. Because we were able to welcome more customers on board again, the occupancy rate was 84%. This offers perspective for the coming year, in which we must continue to take geopolitical tensions and other cost-increasing developments into account. In the second quarter of this year, we expect to terminate the loans guaranteed by the Dutch state and replace them with a credit facility with our relationship banks.”

In 2022, KLM will continue to make the operation more sustainable. For example, they started with the standard addition of 0,5% more sustainable jet fuel (SAF) for flights departing from Amsterdam. That will double to 2023% from 1. KLM also signed contracts with two SAF producers, bringing the ambition to mix 2030% SAF worldwide by 10 closer. Furthermore, the collaboration with Thalys started to improve the air-rail transfer product on the Brussels-Amsterdam route. And the SBTi validated KLM's CO2 reduction targets so that they are in line with the Paris climate agreement, according to the airline
