The electric car does not meet the economic needs of motorists.

Everything is being done to put the electric car in a good light, but that seems increasingly difficult. Not financially attractive, prices for loading have risen sharply and the supply of materials is problematic. And all this while precisely the customers who switch to electric transport do so for the savings.

The electric car does not meet the economic needs of motorists, and it does not seem to be getting any better for the time being. Energy is also a major contributor to headline inflation. The price development of energy is measured on the basis of new contracts. However, some households have an existing contract for gas and electricity.

inflation falls to 7.6 percent

Consumer goods and services were 7,6 percent more expensive in January than in the same month a year earlier, Statistics Netherlands reports. In December inflation was 9,6 percent. The energy price ceiling in particular caused the fall in inflation. In addition to the general inflation figure, Statistics Netherlands also publishes monthly inflation rates excluding price developments for energy (gas, electricity and district heating) and fuel.

price ceiling energy

From 1 January 2023 there will be a price cap on energy. In 2023, households will not pay more than a maximum price for gas (1.45 andeuros per m3), electricity (0, 40 euro per kWh) and district heating (47.38 andeuros per GJ). The price ceiling led to a fall in inflation. In January 2023 energy was 3,4 processnt cheaper than in the same month last year. In December 2022 energy was still there 52 procmore expensive than a year earlier.

inflation lower than in the Eurozone

Since 1996, Statistics Netherlands has published two different figures for inflation. One based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and one based on the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP). According to the HICP, consumer goods and services in the Netherlands were 8,4 percent more expensive in January than in the same month a year earlier, compared to 11,0 percent in December. Inflation in the eurozone fell from 9,2 percent in December to 8,5 percent in January. Inflation in the Netherlands is therefore lower than inflation in the eurozone for the first time after October 2021.
