1.291 new and clean buses were purchased to renew 60% of the fleet. The effort of the Madrid City Council, together with the management of the Madrid Municipal Transport Company (EMT), has made it possible to continuously deploy new buses that the European Union includes on the Clean Vehicles Directive list (Clean Vehicles Directive: EU Directive 2019/11610).

Thanks to this commitment, the last 12 EMT diesel buses have permanently stopped running this month, putting Madrid at the top of Spain, in line with the provisions of the European regulation on fuels for urban transport. This milestone also coincides with the 75th anniversary of the EMT.
