In her new role, Schellekens is responsible for the Transformation and Sustainability teams to enable further acceleration of the company's sustainability efforts.

As of March 1, 2023, Zita Schellekens has been appointed Senior Vice President Sustainability & Strategy of KLM. This is a new role within KLM that is part of the Executive Committee. Schellekens has been Sustainability Director at DSM for the past two and a half years. During that period she also invested with former DSM CEO Feike Sijbesma in innovative, sustainable start-ups. She is a member of the Sustainability Advisory Board of Royal Schiphol Group.

Prior to her position at DSM, Schellekens, as Director of Corporate Affairs at Heineken, was responsible, among other things, for sustainability, public affairs and communication, at various locations in Asia, Africa and the Netherlands. In her new role, Schellekens is responsible for the Transformation and Sustainability teams to enable further acceleration of the company's sustainability efforts. She reports directly to KLM CEO Marjan Rintel airline.

“I am going to commit myself to a great assignment: to transform KLM sustainably. It is a great and challenging assignment, one that is very necessary. Strategy, transformation and sustainability come together in this role. This means focusing on accelerating sustainability, making use of all available innovative solutions and setting up smart public-private partnerships.
