How easy is that, no longer buying a ticket or reloading your public transport chip card because there is not enough credit on it, but simply pay with your debit card, mobile phone or credit card. It started as a test, but this is possible in more and more places in the Netherlands. This payment system is called OVpay, OVpay is the new way of checking in and out in public transport in the Netherlands. OVpay is an initiative of all public transport companies in the Netherlands: Arriva, EBS, GVB, HTM, Keolis, NS, Qbuzz, RET and Transdev, together with Translink.

From January 31, checking in and out for the train is just as easy and fast as paying for groceries without contact. It's about convenience. This way you can use the train without having to buy a ticket first. Also the Dutch railways started last August with a trial where travelers could check in and out contactless with their debit card, credit card, telephone or smartwatch. More than 3000 travelers took part in the trial. The Dutch Railways announced today that from 31 January train passengers who travel full fare in second class – in addition to the public transport chip card – can also check in and out at NS with their contactless debit card, credit card or mobile phone. The costs of a journey with a debit card are the same as the costs of a journey with an OV chip card. The traveler sees a payment overview of the trips made at the bank or credit provider the next day.
