The municipality has the task of making this student transport available and must ensure that the quality of this transport is good.

According to Jacqueline Höcker, leader of the local party Good for Amstelveen (GvA) and Saloua Chaara, who has been a councilor for D2014 since 66, more attention should be paid to more inclusive education in Amstelveen, so that more students can go to school close to home. They have asked for clarification and want issues resolved quickly.

Problems with student transport have an impact on the development of students and their right to education. That is why questions were asked about it by letter. The problems must be solved quickly. With a focus on better suitable education in Amstelveen. Since 2021, student transport for the municipality of Amstelveen has been carried out by transport company Munckhof. D66 and Goed voor Amstelveen are increasingly receiving signals from parents and schools about a malfunctioning transport system. That is why they have asked the mayor and aldermen for clarification.

“We have the impression that the situation is getting worse. As a result, children with autism or a physical disability, for example, miss more and more school hours and their development is hindered. Sometimes students spend XNUMX minutes to an hour and a half in a van because the transporter drives in a loop. As a result, parents are also limited in their work because there is uncertainty about whether the transport will arrive on time.”

“Let it be clear that student transport that does not function optimally can have a real impact on the development of students and their right to education. Therefore, in our view, the problems must be solved quickly. No matter how small the number of students may be affected by the problems.”

D66 and Goed voor Amstelveen therefore want to know how big the problems are and what the council is doing to solve the problems. Both parties want the mayor and aldermen to not only look at the transport problem in itself. But that the Executive Board, together with education, is also looking at more options for more appropriate education in Amstelveen. D66 and Goed voor Amstelveen have called on the council to get to work on this.
