From December 2023, EBS will be the carrier in the new Zaanstreek-Waterland concession.
In December 2023, EBS will start the newly formed Zaanstreek-Waterland concession with no fewer than 193 new generation VDL Citeas. The vehicles, based entirely on an electric powertrain, will be delivered from September 2023. For VDL Bus & Coach, this is the largest order it has ever received for electric vehicles.
VDL Bus & Coach will deliver 60 new generation VDL Citeas of the LE-122 type and 133 VDL Citeas of the LE-135 type. The VDL Citeas LE-135 come in both R-Net and M-Net versions. The vehicles will be equipped with battery packs with a capacity of 490 kWh (LE-122) and 552 kWh (LE-135) respectively.

According to client Transport Region Amsterdam EBS in an ambitious and flexible concession. EBS starts with a high transport offer and responds quickly to changing circumstances such as growing passenger numbers. EBS is also strongly committed to technological innovations, such as paying with means other than the public transport chip card and planning door-to-door trips. In addition, EBS will focus even more on inclusivity than in the current concession, so that all different target groups can make optimal use of public transport.
CEO at VDL Bus & Coach Rolf-Jan Zweep, who took over the role from Paul van Vuuren on 1 January 2023, says that they are extremely proud that VDL Bus & Coach can supply the entire new fleet for this newly formed concession. “EBS and VDL are acquaintances, as we were previously allowed to supply EBS with 10 electric articulated vehicles for the Waterland concession and 23 low-entry electric vehicles for use in Haaglanden.” The newly delivered buses will cover many kilometers every year, but the new generation of VDL Citea is ideally suited for this because of its economical energy consumption and optimum driving characteristics.

VDL Bus & Coach
At the beginning of 2023, VDL Bus & Coach will open a new factory in Roeselare, Belgium. In addition to Valkenswaard, the new factory in Roeselare will become VDL's center for e-mobility, enabling them to respond even better to the needs and demands of the European market. The CO2-neutral factory will be 'the most modern bus factory in Europe', according to President Willem van der Leegte of VDL Groep.
