The Amsterdam Transport Region wants to provide free tickets to people who desperately need them in 2023. For example, the Transport Region wants to compensate them somewhat for the increased fares in public transport. Those who want to travel in the area of ​​the Transport Region can request tickets for one and a half hours of free travel. The tickets are available from April.

In line with the Regional Council's wish to accommodate lower income groups in particular, it has been decided to provide free tickets for one and a half hours of free travel. The tickets can be used in all buses, trams and metros of the carriers in the Transport Region (EBS, Connexxion, GVB). From April, the tickets can be applied for via a website by anyone earning up to 130 percent of the minimum income. Up to eight tickets can be requested per home address. Enough to reach and return to all destinations within the Transport Region with an average family.

“With this action by the Transport Region, we can do everything in our power to alleviate the financial suffering for the target group that will be hit hardest in the coming year. I am very grateful to the carriers for thinking so intensively with us and will soon be cooperating to support an estimated more than 95.000 households in the Transport Region. Of course it would be nice if all travelers could be compensated. For example, by abolishing VAT on tickets. We ask the cabinet to work on this.”
