9292 started giving travel information 30 years ago on the telephone number 06-9292. This was done from nine call centers to meet the high demand. However, with the rise of the internet and the smartphone, a shift has been visible for years towards the free 9292 app and website. 

Travelers are directed more towards these richer channels, because in addition to requesting travel advice, there is also the option to immediately buy a ticket for your trip. You immediately see the price and travel advice without having to call first. As a result, the demand for telephone services is decreasing and costs are rising. In order to be able to continue the telephone service and to guarantee quality, it has been decided to increase the rate as of January 1, 2023 from €0.90 to €1,00 per minute.

9292 provides travel information on behalf of all carriers to every traveler, which also includes telephone advice. In recent years, a shift has been visible in the telephone service: where previously most calls were about providing travel advice, it is now increasingly about complicated subscription advice and travel information in the event of calamities such as weather conditions or strikes. In addition to telephone customer service, travelers can also ask their questions via various social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) or by email.

Customer service is available daily from 07:00 to 21:30. Travel information is provided here by well-trained employees and this is expensive. The rate must be increased in order to be able to continue the service and to guarantee the quality. The last price increase was implemented six years ago (December 2016), with the price increasing from €0,70 to €0,90 per minute. With the price increase to €1,00 per minute (with a maximum of €20,00 per call), the telephone service can be maintained for travelers who are less digitally skilled and who would like to be helped by travel advisors.
