TUI, one of the world's leading tourism groups, and Spanish energy company Cepsa have signed a partnership agreement to promote the production and supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). An important tool to further reduce the carbon footprint of air transport and a priority for both companies to combat climate change.

These fuels will be produced from circular raw materials that do not compete with food sources, such as used cooking oils, non-food animal waste or biodegradable waste from various industries, and will make it possible to reduce aircraft emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional ones. kerosene.

TUI has been working for years to reduce its ecological footprint and is on the road to zero-emission travel, with the aim of reaching it by 2050 at the latest. To achieve this goal and gradually reduce emissions from holiday travel, TUI will increasingly rely on new energy alternatives.

TUI works with strong partners to implement its plans to reduce emissions and has a long-standing partnership with Spain-based Cepsa. Spain, especially with its holiday islands such as the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands, is one of the main destinations for TUI Airlines.

Cepsa not only supplies TUI with kerosene and, in the future, SAF, but also fuel for coaches in some destinations and for the ships of the Group's cruise division, two areas where the companies will also work together to pursue decarbonisation.

The agreement is in line with the European Commission's Fit for 55 package, which includes a legislative initiative called 'RefuelEU Aviation' that aims to increase the demand and supply of aviation biofuels in the European Union to 2 % use by 2025, 5% by 2030 and 63% by 2050, according to TUI Group.
