Holidaymakers are staying closer to home this summer due to the coronavirus, high fuel prices and inflation. A camping holiday with your own tent or caravan remains the most popular. Holidaymakers also prefer to travel by car. This is evident from research by the ANWB. This year too, the corona virus affects the behavior of Dutch holidaymakers. About 45% of ANWB members indicate that corona has an impact on their holiday plans. The car is again the most popular mode of transport during the summer holidays this year, despite high fuel prices. Travelers who go on holiday by car are also not stopped by the expected traffic on the road: more than two thirds of them drive to their destination as planned. Of the holidaymakers who travel by plane (16%), 44% opt for another airport because of the crowds at Schiphol.

Despite corona and the high (fuel) prices, three quarters of the ANWB members plan to go on holiday this summer. A camping holiday with your own tent or caravan remains the most popular this summer. The Netherlands, Germany and France are popular destinations. Due to the war in Ukraine, holidaymakers are avoiding direct neighboring countries and other destinations in Eastern Europe. Inflation also influences holiday behaviour. As a result, people go on summer holidays less often, opt for a different type of holiday or look for a destination closer to home. This poll from the ANWB is a representative, quantitative survey among 1200 respondents aged 18 and older, held in June 2022. The survey provides insight into the holiday plans of ANWB members.
